Willie Lionel King was born in Holton St Mary (nr Ipswich) (Samford Q4-1888 4A:756) son of George and Elizabeth KING (née MUSK).

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at the Street, Cheveley with his father George KING [43],thatcher and rat catcher born Boxted, his mother Elizabeth [42] born Pakenham; brothers Robert [12] farm labourer born Boxted, Ernest [11] born Boxted, John H [5] born East Bergholt and Harold F [3 months] born Cheveley; sister Amelia [9] born Boxted.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at Church Lane, Cheveley with his parents, brothers Robert, Ernest G and John H. (farm labourers), Harold [10] and Albert E [7] both born in Cheveley.

1911 census...Aged 22, he was at 44 Church Lane, Cheveley with his parents and brother Albert Edward. All the men were farm labourers.

The pension card has his father at 44 Church Lane, Cheveley


He enlisted in Newmarket. "Soldiers Died" has him born in Colchester (Holton St Marys is actually closer to Ipswich)
With no Army records and dying of his wounds it is impossible to say where or when he was wounded. His battalion had been involved in fighting along the River Rhonelle between Le Quesnoy and Valenciennes at the end of October 1918.
